Barn siaradwyr Cymraeg am bresgripsiwn cymdeithasol yng Nghymru (Perceptions of Welsh speakers about social prescribing in Wales)

Background: The aim of this qualitative research was to discover the views of Welsh speakers about social prescription in Wales following the launch of the Social Prescribing Framework in Wales in 2023.

Method: Face-to-face and online workshops were held to find out the opinion of Welsh speakers about Social Prescription. The workshops were held in May and June 2024 in meeting rooms at Bangor University and the University of South Wales in Pontypridd.

Findings: There was a wide range of findings about social prescription in Wales. Some participants understood the process of referring to a social activity, but some others were learning about the social referral process during the workshop.

Conclusions: There is a need to disseminate information and understanding about the benefits of social prescription for Welsh speakers in Wales.

Recommendations for policy: The profile of social prescription in Wales needs to be raised. The public in Wales needs to know that social prescription practitioners or contact workers are attached to a number of family practices throughout Wales and that it is also possible to self-refer to a community asset in order to increase wellbeing and reduce social isolation.
