This study explores healthcare professionals’ attitudes in Wales toward using Welsh in clinical settings. An anonymous online survey examined Welsh language proficiency, experiences of using the language with patients and colleagues, and opinions on its role in healthcare. Findings reveal a strong link between Welsh language use and confidence in communication. Overall, attitudes were positive, with many supporting minimum Welsh proficiency requirements for staff, increasing the numbers of Welsh-speaking professionals to enhance patient care, and reserved places for Welsh speakers on healthcare courses. These views suggest that promoting Welsh language use in healthcare could improve care quality for Wales’ bilingual population.
